documentary based visual storyteller
bio
Patricia (she/her) is a Canadian-Mexican photographer who focuses on documenting stories that speak to the human experience, with a particular focus on issues that affect women and disadvantaged groups.
Patricia has a B.A in Anthropology from the University of British Columbia and an M.Sc. in Children’s Rights in International Development from the University of Amsterdam. After her education, Patricia spent time working in various countries on issues such as indigenous education and children’s rights. In 2010 she spent a year with the UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan monitoring and reporting on child rights violations and working on the demobilisation of child soldiers. In 2011 she worked with UNICEF on the coordination of the child protection response to the famine in Somalia. It is with this background that she approaches her work with a lens towards social justice.
Over the years, Patricia taught herself photography through self study, workshops and taking on family photography clients. She then made the transition into working with different NGOs and working on personal projects. Patricia has worked with a number of UN agencies and non-profits. She currently lives in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
